Mato Grosso meatpacking plants show high compliance with meat industry environmental audits

More than 90% of meatpacking plants summoned in Mato Grosso have completed audits required by the ‘TAC da Carne’ (Meat Conduct Adjustment Agreement). This instrument is used by the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) to monitor compliance with socio-environmental criteria within the livestock supply chain in the Legal Amazon.

Of the 14 establishments summoned in the state, 13 completed the process, representing 92.9% of the total. These audited establishments account for 82% of all animals commercialized for slaughter or export in Mato Grosso between January 2023 and December 2024. Federal Prosecutor Erich Masson noted that most irregularities found were minor and that most companies comply with Brazilian environmental legislation.

The audits are part of the 3rd Unified Audit Cycle of the TAC da Carne in the Legal Amazon, covering transactions in Mato Grosso, Pará, Rondônia, Tocantins, Amazonas, and Acre. Caio Penido, president of the Mato Grosso Meat Institute, emphasized the importance of regularization programs to help irregular producers return to the formal market.
