Mato Grosso mining sector strengthens gold traceability

The Brazilian Institute of Gems and Precious Metals (IBGM) and the Mato Grosso branch of Sebrae have signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen the mining production chain in Mato Grosso. The partnership focuses initially on the traceability and certification of gold, with plans to expand into gemstones and jewelry.

The initiative aims to improve competitiveness and transparency within the sector to overcome historical stigmas associated with mineral activities. The agreement includes technical cooperation, specialized consultancy, and training to promote innovation, sustainability, and integrated governance. Additionally, the IBGM is involved in the ‘Gold Without Mercury’ project, which works with miners in the Cuiabá Lowlands to eliminate mercury use in favor of traceable metal processes.
