Mato Grosso opens public consultation for Onça-Pintada Wildlife Refuge
The Mato Grosso State Secretariat for the Environment (Sema-MT) has launched a public consultation regarding the proposed creation of the Onça-Pintada Wildlife Refuge in the municipality of Poconé, located in the Pantanal region.
The participatory process includes a 30-day virtual consultation running from October 27 to November 27, 2026, and a scheduled in-person public hearing on November 24, 2026, in Poconé. The initiative aims to involve society in evaluating the proposal's location, dimensions, and boundaries.
Technical studies supporting the proposal are available on the Sema portal. The project is a partnership between Sema and the Panther Institute. Contributions will be analyzed by the Coordination of Conservation Units to refine the proposal.
