Lisbon Airport workers arrested in major cocaine smuggling operation
Portuguese authorities have dismantled a criminal network involved in smuggling large quantities of cocaine into Europe via commercial flights from Latin America. As part of ‘Operation Falcão,’ the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) arrested two airport workers, aged 46 and 48, at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport.
The suspects, who worked for a baggage handling service provider, were allegedly caught removing four suitcases containing approximately 110 kilograms of cocaine from an aircraft. During the operation, investigators also seized roughly 200,000 euros in cash, several vehicles, and various documents and objects related to the criminal activity. The two men have been presented for judicial interrogation to determine necessary coercive measures.
