Mato Grosso police launch investigation into Poxoréu nightclub murder

The Civil Police of Mato Grosso have launched ‘Operação Véu de Ísis’, the third phase of an investigation into the May homicide of 20-year-old Lavínia Gabrielly Guimarães Coutinho. The operation involves three search and seizure warrants and two preventive arrest warrants being executed in Poxoréu, Rondonópolis, and Cuiabá.

One of the targets is a city councilman from Poxoréu, Túlio César (Republicanos), who had previously been held under temporary arrest in July. Lavínia was shot twice in the head at a nightclub in Poxoréu on May 10.

Investigators suggest the murder may be linked to a criminal faction. Authorities are looking into whether the victim had contact with security forces and provided information regarding regional drug trafficking. The investigation remains under seal as police work to identify all individuals involved in the crime.
