Mato Grosso political rift intensifies as PL candidates support Governor Pivetta

As elections approach, political tensions in Mato Grosso and Sergipe are intensifying. In Mato Grosso, a significant rift has emerged within the Liberal Party (PL). Senate candidate José Medeiros and his running mate, Odílio Balbinotti, have officially declared support for Governor Otaviano Pivetta’s reelection, despite the PL running its own candidate, Wellington Fagundes, for the governorship.

Pivetta has criticized Fagundes, claiming that those who know the senator do not support him. This internal division is further evidenced by several mayors from the PL who have also aligned themselves with Pivetta. Meanwhile, other candidates in Mato Grosso are making final pushes, including Mauro Mendes, who is campaigning for a Senate seat, and various legislative candidates.

In the Senate race for Mato Grosso, ten candidates are competing for two vacancies. Notable contenders include incumbent Soraya Thronicke and former governor Reinaldo Azambuja. In Sergipe, Governor Fábio Mitidieri is conducting final campaign activities in Aracaju and Nossa Senhora do Socorro to highlight state achievements in employment and investment ahead of the first-round vote.
