Mato Grosso prosecutor charges motorcyclist in fatal hit-and-run
The Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT) has charged 19-year-old Igor Pinheiro da Silva with qualified homicide and fleeing the scene of an accident following a fatal collision in Pontes e Lacerda.
The incident occurred on September 13 in the city's central region. Investigations indicate that the defendant, driving a high-capacity motorcycle, had consumed alcohol at a local tobacco shop before driving at approximately 88 km/h—more than double the 40 km/h speed limit. At the time of the collision, the driver was reportedly performing a “grau,” a maneuver involving riding the motorcycle on only one wheel.
The victim, a 22-year-old pedestrian, was struck and thrown approximately 50 meters, dying from his injuries. The prosecution argues the crime involved resources that hindered the victim's defense and created common danger. Da Silva is also charged under Article 305 of the Brazilian Traffic Code for abandoning the vehicle and fleeing, before being located days later in Espigão D’Oeste, Rondônia.
