Mato Grosso prosecutors investigate landscape impact of new Salgadeira portal

The Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT) has launched an investigation into a newly installed access portal at the Sesc Salgadeira Tourist Complex on the MT-251 highway. The inquiry aims to determine if the structure causes visual pollution or damages the natural landscape of the road connecting Cuiabá to Chapada dos Guimarães.

Because the MT-251 is classified as a 'Park Road' and falls within the influence zone of the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park, any construction must comply with strict landscape preservation rules and the park's Management Plan. Prosecutor Joelson de Campos Maciel has requested that various entities—including Sesc-MT, ICMBio, and state secretariats for Environment, Infrastructure, and Economic Development—submit technical studies, licenses, and authorizations within 10 days.

The investigation will evaluate whether prior visual impact studies were conducted and if the installation is compatible with environmental protection guidelines. If the structure is found to violate these norms, authorities may require modifications or its removal.
