Mato Grosso Public Ministry confirms two springs in Cuiabá

The Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT), through its ‘Water for the Future’ project, has confirmed the existence of two intermittent springs in the Sucuri region of Cuiabá. The technical inspection followed inquiries from a real estate developer regarding previous technical studies conducted by the project.

During the inspection, technical teams performed field tests, soil analysis, and aerial imaging to verify the findings. The presence of two channels formed by the springs was clearly identified, reinforcing the reliability of the project's prior mapping. The area also contains a lake formed by a decades-old dam, which is currently integrated into the local ecosystem and supports various fauna.

The objective of these inspections is to ensure that the delimitation of Permanent Preservation Areas (APPs) is based on scientific evidence. By identifying these areas before urban occupation occurs, the project aims to provide technical security for real estate developments while protecting the city's water resources. To date, the project has mapped approximately 3,000 potential spring locations.
