Mato Grosso report: Nearly half of femicide perpetrators had prior police records
A new data panel implemented by the Observatório Caliandra of the Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT) reveals that nearly half of the perpetrators of femicide in the state had prior police records at the time of the crimes.
Since the historical series began in 2019, the panel has identified 382 authors and co-authors involved in femicides in Mato Grosso. Of these identified individuals, 48% had previous criminal records. Among those with prior history, 67% of the records were related to domestic and family violence. The most frequent age group for perpetrators is 30 to 34 years old.
The data also indicates a 98% elucidation rate for the registered femicides during this period, with cases being forwarded for criminal prosecution. Most perpetrators were identified as partners, boyfriends, or former partners of the victims.
