Mato Grosso reports decline in homicides and robbery-homicides

Mato Grosso has recorded a significant decrease in violent crime between January and September 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. Homicides fell by 12.6%, dropping from 505 to 441 deaths, while robbery-homicides (latrocínios) decreased by 36.3%, falling from 11 to seven occurrences.

Data from the State Security Observatory (OBS-MT) and the State Secretariat of Public Security (Sesp) indicate a continuing downward trend in crime since 2019. Public Security Secretary Colonel Susane Tamanho attributed these results to investments in prevention and repression, specifically citing the ‘Zero Tolerance Program for Criminal Factions’ and intelligence-led patrolling by the Military Police.
