Mato Grosso political landscape shifts as Pivetta leads polls

Political activity in Mato Grosso is intensifying ahead of upcoming elections. A recent survey by Instituto Paraná Pesquisas shows Governor Otaviano Pivetta leading the race for the state government with 40.8% of the vote, holding a 10.8 percentage point advantage over Senator Wellington Fagundes, who has 30%. In a direct head-to-head simulation, Pivetta leads with 47.2% against Fagundes' 38.3%.

Endorsements are also shaping the landscape. Senators Damares Alves and Tereza Cristina have declared support for Michelly Alencar’s candidacy for state deputy. Additionally, indigenous leaders from the Paresí people, including Cacique Rony Azoinace, have expressed support for Pivetta, citing successful partnerships in agriculture and tourism.

Meanwhile, legislative and administrative tensions persist. The Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly recently failed to reach a quorum to vote on a veto regarding a 6.8% salary increase for Judiciary employees. In political rhetoric, candidate Mauro Mendes has criticized former governor Pedro Taques, citing historical debts and administrative issues during his tenure.
