Mato Grosso State Court Leads Brazil in Conciliation Hearings

The Tribunal de Justiça de Mato Grosso (TJMT) achieved the highest proportion of conciliation hearings among Brazil's medium‑size state courts and recorded the second‑best performance among all 27 state courts in the country. According to the CNJ’s Justiça em Números 2026 report, 54.4% of new cases filed in 2025 in Mato Grosso were resolved through conciliation, compared with a 29.5% average across the state judiciary.

The court attributes the result to expanded infrastructure, now operating 50 Centros Judiciários de Solução de Conflitos e Cidadania (Cejuscs) throughout the state. Nationwide, Brazil’s justice system concluded 2025 with 1,843 Cejuscs, reflecting a broader policy push to strengthen a culture of consensual dispute resolution. TJMT President Judge José Zuqim Nogueira said the figures demonstrate the court’s commitment to offering parties the opportunity to settle conflicts through dialogue before proceeding to trial, thereby speeding up justice and preserving relationships.
