Mato Grosso states advance energy sector with gas market reforms and drone inspections

The state regulatory agency Agems in Mato Grosso do Sul certified nine gas commercializers under the latest state ordinance, expanding a transparent, competitive market in line with Brazil’s New Gas Law. The agency highlighted that more than 85% of the state’s industrial gas consumption now comes from these free‑market suppliers, helping lower prices. Director‑president Carlos Alberto de Assis said, “We are consolidating a market that is increasingly dynamic and competitive, with clear rules, legal certainty and opportunities for new investments.”

In neighboring Mato Grosso, electricity distributor Energisa deployed drones equipped with thermal‑vision cameras to inspect the transmission network serving Rondonópolis, Pedra Preta, Guiratinga and Tesouro. The night‑time inspections allow technicians to spot abnormal heating in cables, transformers and connections before failures cause outages. Coordinator Ubiraci Cortez noted, “The use of thermography lets us identify situations that are often invisible to the naked eye.” The program aims to improve reliability, reduce outage risk and enhance safety for field crews while modernising the state's power grid.
