Mato Grosso tax authority recovers R$18.5 million in fiscal audit
The Secretaria de Fazenda of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso (Sefaz‑MT) secured the collection of R$18.5 million that had not been correctly transferred to the Fundo de Gestão Fazendária (Fungefaz). The recovery resulted from a joint inspection by the Superintendências of Fiscalização and Controle e Monitoramento, carried out between November 2025 and May 2026 and covering the period 2021‑2025.
Eighty‑three notifications were issued to companies benefiting from ICMS reductions on road‑equipment purchases, requiring them to pay the statutory 15% contribution of the fiscal waiver to the fund. After the notices, the firms settled the amounts either in full or through installments. The audit identified errors such as incorrect merchandise returns, misuse of collection codes and inter‑branch transfers. Lucas Elmo, deputy secretary of public revenue, said, “Nosso foco foi estimular a regularização espontânea e fortalecer a conformidade tributária.” Companies that fail to regularize may face further audits and penalties.
