Mato Grosso moves ahead with R$1.5 billion loan to build 60,000 homes

Governor Otaviano Pivetta delivered a draft law to the Mato Grosso Legislative Assembly authorising the state to borrow up to R$ 1.5 billion from Caixa Econômica Federal. The financing will fund the SER Família Habitação programme, targeting the construction of 60 000 popular‑housing units for families without homes. The proposal also aims to preserve ongoing infrastructure and health investments by reallocating resources currently earmarked for the State Transport and Housing Fund (Fethab).

Assembly president Max Russi said the bill will be treated as a priority and must be approved by 3 July to meet electoral‑calendar deadlines. The loan will be complemented by a state subsidy of up to R$ 35 000 per unit, while the state’s fiscal position—approximately R$ 11 billion total cash, of which R$ 3.7 billion is liquid—supports the operation. The Legislative session also cleared a series of executive vetoes, expediting the bill’s progress.
