Mato Grosso water project identifies 16 new springs
The Água para o Futuro project, coordinated by the Public Ministry of Mato Grosso (MPMT), reported significant progress in protecting water resources during the first half of 2026. The initiative identified and characterized 16 new springs in the municipalities of Cuiabá, Várzea Grande, and Alto Araguaia.
In Cuiabá, prospecting expanded into northern and northwestern urban expansion areas, specifically within the Ribeirão do Lipa and Córrego Sucuri microbasins, confirming nine new springs. The project also conducted environmental inspections in Alta Floresta, Jaciara, and Alto Taquari, resulting in 60 technical reports and the production of over 50 thematic maps to assist in delimiting permanent preservation areas.
In the state's interior, the project completed its second stage of activities in Campo Verde, where a total of 45 springs have now been confirmed.
