Mato Grosso's Vigia Mais MT program recovers 86 stolen vehicles, returns R$4 million

The Mato Grosso state government’s video‑monitoring initiative, Vigia Mais MT, used artificial‑intelligence licence‑plate recognition to locate and retrieve 86 stolen or stolen‑and‑found vehicles between January and May 2026. The recovered assets included 48 cars, 36 motorcycles and two trucks, amounting to about R$ 4 million in compensation for owners.

Since its launch in March 2023, the system has assisted in the recovery of 583 vehicles and enabled the state to return roughly R$ 24.8 million to victims. Cameras capture plate numbers, vehicle colour and cross‑reference them with a national fleet database, providing evidence for investigations and supporting police patrols. Colonel PM Paulo César, deputy secretary of Operational Integration, described Vigia Mais MT as “one of the biggest allies of security forces in Mato Grosso, recognised nationally as an efficient tool that delivers results.”
