Matola Municipal Council Launches Women’s Funding Initiative
The Matola City Council inaugurated the first edition of the Xitique da Mulher Matolense fund, allocating an annual budget of 7.5 million meticais (about US$117,300). Council President Júlio Parruque said the fund aims to support income‑generating projects, promote female entrepreneurship and create job and self‑employment opportunities for women residents aged 25 to 75. Applicants must present viable business plans and commit to repaying the loan, with possible grants ranging from roughly US$156 to US$3,100 per project. Councilor Lizete Mabjaia explained the priority for joint proposals that encourage cooperation among women.
The initiative aligns with Matola’s broader strategies for gender equality, financial inclusion and local economic development, complementing the existing Avante Jovem program, which also provides 7.5 million meticais annually for youth projects.
