Matola Municipality to subsidize licenses for moto-taxi drivers

The Matola Municipality has announced a new initiative to support local moto-taxi operators by subsidizing the costs of obtaining and renewing driving licenses, as well as providing a six-month exemption on operating licenses. The measure was unveiled by the President of the Matola Municipal Council, Júlio Parruque, during a municipal dialogue with operators.

The initiative aims to formalize the sector and improve road safety. Many operators currently work without legal qualifications, which increases the risk of traffic accidents. By supporting driver training and licensing, the municipality seeks to organize the service, which is vital for mobility in areas underserved by public transport.

Additionally, the municipality plans to implement a dedicated identification and registration system for both drivers and motorcycles to ensure better urban control and oversight of the activity.
