Matosinhos to seek €40 million loan for 500 affordable homes
The Mayor of Matosinhos, Luísa Salgueiro, has announced plans to request a €40 million loan to fund the construction of 500 affordable rental homes. The initiative aims to address local housing needs by targeting the middle class, distinguishing these projects from previous efforts focused on subsidized rent.
One of the planned developments will be reserved exclusively for young people up to the age of 35 to assist with their independence. The municipality intends to use its own land for these projects. Salgueiro noted that the city expects to recover more than €20 million, which represents the 60% portion of funding responsibility belonging to the central government.
The loan request is scheduled for discussion during the next public meeting of the municipal executive this coming Wednesday. Salgueiro stated that the municipality is moving forward independently to avoid delays associated with national government timing.
