Matres Festival concludes in Cava de’ Tirreni

The ninth edition of the Matres International Festival of Female Ceramics concluded on August 30 at the San Giovanni monumental complex in Cava de’ Tirreni, Italy. Curated by Anna Rita Fasano of APS Pandora Artiste Ceramiste ETS, the festival focused on the theme ‘CIBUM – Nourishing Form, Nourishing the Earth.’

The event featured over 190 artists and more than 400 works, representing diverse cultures from South Korea, Japan, India, Australia, Algeria, Iraq, Iran, Greece, Portugal, and various European nations. The festival explored the intersection of ceramics with food, archaeology, design, and craftsmanship.

Key award winners included Juwon Park from South Korea, who received the ‘Award Designer’ first prize, followed by Agnese Duerchnabell (Italy) in second and Haesin Ro (South Korea) in third. Bouriche Boudemier from Algeria won the ‘Materie Prime’ award. Local officials noted that the festival aims to support the traditional ceramic craftsmanship and productive activities of the Cava de’ Tirreni region.
