Matrix 5 development enters early stages with potential 2028 release

The development of ‘Matrix 5’ is currently in an early stage, with a theatrical release likely not occurring before 2028. Drew Goddard is working on the screenplay and may also serve as director. Goddard intends to provide a unique perspective on the cyberpunk universe while honoring the legacy established by Lana and Lilly Wachowski.

Lana Wachowski will remain involved in the project as an executive producer. However, unlike previous installments, the Wachowskis are not expected to direct. The return of original cast members Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity remains unconfirmed. Warner Bros. has expressed support for Goddard’s new vision for continuing the franchise.
