Matrix Renewables launches 50MW Adelfa Solar plant, completing 250MW Palencia photovoltaic cluster
Matrix Renewables, backed by TPG Rise, inaugurated the Adelfa Solar photovoltaic plant in Paredes de Nava, Palencia. The 50 MW facility is the latest addition to a cluster of five 50 MW solar parks in the province, bringing the total installed capacity to 250 MW with a cumulative investment of about €227 million.
Sergio Arbeláez, Managing Director for Europe and Latin America at Matrix Renewables, said the plant marks a milestone for both the company and the region. Local mayor Luis Calderón highlighted the project's potential to generate new opportunities and revenues for the municipality. Matrix plans to explore battery storage and possible hybridisation with on‑shore wind to provide flexible, 24‑hour clean power.
The solar complex, covering roughly 100 hectares and employing over 88,000 panels, is expected to supply electricity for around 125,000 Spanish homes. The project also supports local economic development, with estimated annual municipal income of €200‑300 k, funding public services and cultural initiatives. Additional social programmes involve schools, training for at‑risk groups, and a pilot on biodiversity monitoring and regenerative grazing within the solar field.
