Mats Vilander distinguishes Federer as greatest and Djokovic as best
Former world number one and seven-time Grand Slam champion Mats Vilander has shared his analysis regarding the greatest tennis players in history. Vilander distinguished between the impact on the sport and pure playing quality.
He identified Roger Federer as the ‘greatest in history’ due to his immense influence on tennis. However, Vilander stated that Federer was not necessarily the best in terms of skill, asserting, ‘The best is Djokovic.’
Vilander noted that Federer was the most dominant player of his generation, observing that Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal were younger when they first competed against him. Federer is five years older than Nadal and six years older than Djokovic.
