Mats Wieffer sidelined by unusual injury at Brighton
Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Mats Wieffer has sustained an unusual injury that will sideline him until at least the upcoming international break. The 26-year-old Dutch international was injured during a match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
During the 80th minute of the game, Wieffer was struck hard in the face by the ball. While he did not suffer a head injury, the impact caused him to lose control of his body momentarily, leading to his legs landing in an awkward position and resulting in a knee injury.
Brighton manager Fabian Hürzeler described the incident as ‘one of the strangest cases I have ever seen,’ noting that while the injury is not considered serious, it was ‘very unfortunate.’ Wieffer will miss at least the next four matches for his club.
