Mats Wilander distinguishes between Federer and Djokovic

Former world number one and seven-time Grand Slam champion Mats Wilander has shared his perspective on the distinction between the ‘best’ and the ‘greatest’ players in tennis history. Following Roger Federer’s induction into the Hall of Fame in Newport, Wilander identified Federer as the greatest player due to his role as the sport’s premier ambassador and his profound impact on tennis through his conduct and creativity.

However, Wilander distinguished this from technical supremacy, stating that Novak Djokovic is the best player to ever play the game. He noted that Federer was exceptionally dominant within his own generation, often competing against younger players like Djokovic and Rafael Nadal as they emerged. Wilander praised Federer’s mental toughness, tactical variety, and consistent ability to give 100 percent in every match.
