Matsuyama Autumn Festival features revival of Otōjin Mikoshi
The Matsuyama Autumn Festival in Ehime Prefecture saw the highly anticipated return of the Otōjin Mikoshi, which has been inactive since 2019. The group had previously suspended operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic and internal disputes among participants.
Following requests from local residents and support from neighboring neighborhood associations, 180 participants led the heavy portable shrine back into the festivities. The revival culminated in a traditional 'hachiawase'—a spirited collision between shrines—at the Dogo Onsen station area.
Festival leaders expressed their commitment to preserving this traditional culture and ensuring the group's continuity for future years, emphasizing the importance of safety and community cooperation.
