Matt Berninger releases new EP ‘Type It Up’

Matt Berninger, vocalist of The National, has released a new EP titled ‘Type It Up’ through Concord Records. The collection features three original songs—including the single ‘Ask for Water’ and ‘Martini Me Fatso’—alongside two covers.

The covers include New Order’s ‘Blue Monday’ and The Velvet Underground’s ‘Who Loves the Sun,’ the latter of which features Rosanne Cash. Berninger noted that the songs were developed during the momentum of the ‘Get Sunk’ tour, utilizing real-time feedback from audiences and social media.

He specifically mentioned changing the lyrics for the title track, ‘Type It Up,’ after listeners misheard the original line, ‘That would look good in a black letter font,’ as ‘I would look good in a black leather thong.’

A vinyl edition of the EP is scheduled for release on December 4, which will include an acoustic live recording from Australia.
