Matt Damon’s Water.org reaches 92 million people

Actor Matt Damon’s humanitarian work, which began with a transformative trip to a rural Zambian village in the mid-2000s, has expanded into a global mission through Water.org. His firsthand experience with the difficulties families face regarding clean water and sanitation inspired him to establish the H2O Africa Foundation in 2006.

In 2009, Damon partnered with engineer and sanitation specialist Gary White to form Water.org. By combining Damon’s public profile with White’s technical expertise, the organization has utilized sustainable microfinancing models to help more than 92 million people access safe water and sanitation across three continents.
