Matt Dawson dies during Tajikistan mountain expedition

American adventurer Matt Dawson has died following an accident during an expedition in Tajikistan. Dawson was attempting to summit Ismoil Somoni Peak, the highest mountain in the country, when the incident occurred on August 15.

A former finance professional and Wharton graduate, Dawson utilized extreme sports to drive philanthropic efforts. Through his Dawson’s Peak Foundation and Project Seven for Soldiers, he sought to raise funds for various social causes and inspire others to overcome personal adversity. His expeditions included treks to the South Pole, the Mojave Desert, and various high-altitude climbs.
