Matt Dunlap secures DCCC support for Maine congressional race

Democratic nominee Matt Dunlap has officially received support from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) in his race for Maine’s 2nd Congressional District. The DCCC has added Dunlap to its ‘Red to Blue’ program, providing fundraising and organizational resources to help him compete against Republican candidate and former Maine Governor Paul LePage.

The campaign has also intensified its focus on LePage’s age. Dunlap’s team has criticized the 77-year-old candidate, questioning his capacity to serve and noting that he would be the oldest freshman ever elected to the House if successful. LePage’s campaign has dismissed these attacks, with the former governor stating that his ability to serve would depend on ‘health and sanity.’

This race follows the decision by moderate Democrat Jared Golden not to seek reelection in the swing district. Dunlap, a 61-year-old State Auditor, secured the Democratic nomination after a ranked-choice voting runoff in June.
