Matt Groening denies The Simpsons will end after season 40

Matt Groening, the creator of The Simpsons, has dismissed speculation regarding the show's end following comments made by voice actress Nancy Cartwright. During a fan Q&A at Disney’s D23 convention, Groening addressed rumors that the series might conclude after its 40th season.

The speculation originated from Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson, during an appearance on Michael Rosenbaum’s ‘Inside of You’ podcast. When asked how long she believed the series would run, Cartwright suggested ‘40 [seasons]’, though she noted this was merely her personal opinion and not an official announcement.

Groening characterized the comments as a possible ‘tossed off remark’ and stated, ‘no, we’re never going to end, come on!’

Currently, Fox has renewed the long-running animated series through season 40, which extends its broadcast into the 2028-29 television season. Additionally, a second feature film is scheduled for release on July 23, 2027.
