Tony biopic explores Anthony Bourdain’s early years in Cape Cod

The new A24 film ‘Tony’, directed by Matt Johnson, provides a biographical look at the formative years of the late chef and author Anthony Bourdain. Starring Dominic Sessa as a young Bourdain, the film is inspired by the early chapters of Bourdain’s memoir, ‘Kitchen Confidential’.

Set in the summer of 1985, the story follows a nineteen-year-old Bourdain as he arrives in Provincetown, Massachusetts, seeking a life as a writer. Instead, he finds himself working as a dishwasher in a local seafood restaurant. The narrative explores his transition from a restless, self-described “narcissistic, self-destructive and thoughtless young lout” to a man finding his footing in the culinary world.

The production utilized authentic locations in Cape Cod, specifically Provincetown and Dennis, to maintain realism. The cast includes Antonio Banderas as a mentor figure, Emilia Jones, and Leo Woodall. The film’s score was composed by Jay McCarroll.
