Josh Jacobs pleads no contest to misdemeanor charges

Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor battery and criminal damage to property following an incident in May. As part of a legal agreement in Brown County Court, Jacobs faces a $1,000 fine and a deferred judgment on the property charge, which will be dismissed in 12 months if specific conditions, including counseling and no contact with the victim, are met.

Jacobs is currently on the NFL commissioner’s exempt list and is prohibited from playing or practicing until the league completes its review under the Personal Conduct Policy. The NFL is reportedly attempting to obtain surveillance video from the incident that was placed under a judge’s seal at the request of Jacobs’ defense attorneys.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has publicly defended the player, stating, “I know the guy... and I know the character of the guy.” LaFleur described the incident as an “unfortunate situation.” However, his comments have drawn criticism from those who believe the remarks downplay the seriousness of the allegations.
