Matt Roeske promotes drinking radioactive water via 1920s jug

Matt Roeske, an American health influencer and founder of the wellness brand Cultivate Elevate, is facing scrutiny for claiming to have consumed radioactive water for 250 consecutive days. Roeske uses a Revigator, a ceramic vessel from the 1920s containing a uranium ore lining designed to release radon into the water.

Roeske has promoted the practice on Instagram, suggesting that radium water possesses curative properties and claiming that its regulation by the FDA in the 1930s was part of a conspiracy. However, health experts and historical data warn of severe risks. A 2010 study by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) found that such antique containers can contain high levels of radon, as well as toxic levels of arsenic and lead.

Medical history highlights the dangers of radium consumption, citing the tragic cases of the ‘Radium Girls’ and industrialist Eben Byers, who suffered from bone cancer after consuming radioactive tonics. Experts emphasize that long-term exposure to high levels of radium can significantly increase the risk of bone, liver, and breast cancer.
