Matt Sieg adjusting to West Virginia football as true freshman

West Virginia University true freshman Matt Sieg is gaining experience in his debut season. Through six games, Sieg has recorded 20 tackles and has made two starts in the secondary.

Head coach Rich Rodriguez noted that while Sieg has been solid, the transition from high school to Power Four football involves significant challenges. Rodriguez mentioned that the coaching staff has occasionally placed the freshman in difficult defensive situations as he learns the complexities of the game.

A highly recruited four-star prospect, Sieg previously made history in the WPIAL by becoming the first player to register 5,000 rushing yards and 3,000 passing yards in a career. Currently, his role focuses on defense and special teams, where he serves as a kickoff and punt returner.
