MATTA Fair reports RM16 million in domestic tourism sales per edition

The 59th edition of the MATTA Fair, held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur, has demonstrated a strong trend in domestic tourism. Nigel Wong, President of the Malaysia Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA), reported that domestic tourism segments at the fair are generating sales between RM15 million and RM16 million per edition.

This growth indicates an increasing interest among Malaysians in exploring local destinations. The event features over 306 organizations across 2,026 exhibition spaces, including travel agencies, hotels, theme parks, and airlines. The fair aims to attract up to 180,000 visitors.

The surge in domestic interest is seen as a positive driver for the broader international tourism sector, encouraging innovation in local attractions. This momentum aligns with national goals, including the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign, which targets 47 million international arrivals and RM147.1 billion in tourism revenue.
