Matteo Berrettini reports death threats against family from gamblers

Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini has revealed that his brother, Jacopo, received death threats against their family from gamblers. The threats occurred during Roland Garros, where individuals messaged Jacopo demanding that Matteo lose matches to satisfy betting interests.

Berrettini stated that the incident has been reported to the ATP and legal authorities. He expressed concern for younger players and female athletes, calling for a stronger protective structure or committee to safeguard professionals from such intimidation.

Davis Cup captain Filippo Volandri expressed solidarity, noting that threats and insults linked to gambling are a reality many players face and should not be considered normal. This follows similar reports from player Lucrezia Stefanini, who previously disclosed receiving threats involving her parents and images of weapons via WhatsApp.
