Matteo Darmian joins Bologna for trial to provide defensive cover

Free agent Matteo Darmian has arrived in Bologna to begin training and undergo medical assessments. The 36-year-old former Inter Milan and Manchester United defender is seeking a new club after being without a contract since June 30.

Bologna is considering a permanent deal for Darmian to provide defensive cover following a significant injury to right-back Emil Holm, who requires surgery and is expected to be sidelined for approximately four months. A preliminary agreement is reportedly in place for a one-year contract, potentially running until June 2027, with an estimated annual salary between 800,000 and 1 million euros.

Bologna's technical staff and manager Raffaele Palladino will use the trial period to evaluate Darmian's physical condition and fitness levels before finalizing the registration.
