Matteo Legler Memorial Football Tournament in Porto Ercole Draws Over 100 Players

A memorial five‑a‑side football tournament was held in Porto Ercole to honor the memory of Matteo Legler, a young player who died in December while playing a match in Grosseto. More than a hundred local players took part, forming 13 teams and competing over the weekend. The event was organized by Legler’s friends with support from Porto Ercole Calcio and the Uisp Grosseto committee, which supplied referees. The tournament raised funds for Legler’s family and concluded with Power Boats winning the final, followed by Mele Marce, Atletico Bisi and Biotto.

Local officials highlighted the community’s solidarity. Assessor Silvano Scotto praised the collective effort, while veteran player Vincenzo Sabatini, who helped organise the event, expressed how the town’s swift response turned grief into a shared celebration of sport and friendship.
