Fratelli d’Italia is considering him among a group of potential names, including Maurizio Lupi and Silvia Sardone. However, Lega has expressed caution, emphasizing the need for a candidate with widespread local recognition across all city districts and calling for a collective synthesis rather than unilateral moves.

Perego has already begun campaigning by criticizing the current administration's urban policies. He has specifically targeted the management of public spaces, the lack of greenery in new urban projects, and the perceived neglect of Milan's outskirts compared to the city center.
