Piantedosi defends Italy’s migration policies and Ceuta response

Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi addressed the Schengen Committee regarding migration management and the situation in Ceuta. He rejected accusations that the Italian government is using the Ceuta situation for political propaganda, calling such claims “hypocritical.”

Piantedosi asserted that Italy’s actions are fully compliant with European law and emphasized that the government’s migration policies have led to an 80% decrease in illegal landings over four years. He also noted that repatriations have more than doubled.

Regarding tensions with Spain, the Minister described the suspension of certain measures by Madrid as a “retaliatory logic” that contradicts the European principle of solidarity. He maintained that Italy’s approach to migration is focused on security and structured control.
