Matteo Renzi releases book criticizing Giorgia Meloni’s government

Matteo Renzi has released a new book titled ‘Quando c’era lei’ (When she was here), which serves as a political critique of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government and a precursor to next year’s general elections.

In the book, Renzi argues that Italy’s situation has worsened under the current administration. He cites various economic and social indicators to challenge the government’s narrative, including a tax pressure rate of 43 percent in 2025 and real wages that are 7.5 percent lower than 2021 levels according to OECD data. Renzi also highlights issues such as increased costs for fuel and groceries, delayed train services, youth emigration, and declining birth rates.

The former Prime Minister positions his work as a call to action for the center-left to regain political ground and move past the current leadership.
