Lega leader Matteo Salvini resigns ahead of extraordinary congress

Matteo Salvini and the top leadership of the Lega party have resigned from their positions in preparation for an extraordinary elective congress scheduled for October 24-25 in Milan. The resignations of Salvini and vice-secretaries Claudio Durigon, Silvia Sardone, and Alberto Stefani are described by the party as a necessary and previously agreed-upon step to facilitate the upcoming leadership election.

During the transition, treasurer Alberto Di Rubba has been appointed vice-secretary vicario to administer the party's affairs. Salvini has announced plans to introduce a new political secretariat to share responsibilities and intends to update the party's official symbol to reflect a changing political landscape. He emphasized that the party remains united and expects the congress to be a forum for new ideas and debate.
