Matteo Salvini pledges no wealth tax and seeks higher flat tax threshold
Matteo Salvini, the Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, has declared that there will be no wealth tax as long as the Lega party remains in government. Speaking at the Versiliana Festival in Marina di Pietrasanta, Salvini argued that such a tax is unnecessary because Italians have already paid taxes on those assets and properties.
Salvini also addressed the flat tax threshold for artisans, professionals, and VAT holders. He expressed a desire to raise the current limit to 100,000 euros to simplify life for approximately 2 million VAT holders in Italy. However, he noted that current European Union VAT directives restrict the threshold to 85,000 euros, and exceeding this limit would trigger EU sanctions. He stated that the center-right coalition plans to discuss this issue upon returning from the holidays, with the goal of requesting an increase to the 100,000 euro limit.
