Matteo Trefloni appointed head of Bulgarian Football Union referees commission

The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) announced that 55‑year‑old Italian referee Matteo Trefloni has taken charge of its Referees Commission on a two‑year contract, succeeding Stanislav Todorov. The new five‑member commission includes deputies Alexander Kostadinov and Nikola Djuganski, with Ivan Vŭlchev and Martin Bogdev as members.

Trefloni brings a decade of experience as a Serie A chief referee and eleven years on Italy’s referees committee, and he previously headed Kazakhstan’s referees commission for four years. He also serves as a UEFA match observer and FIFA instructor. The appointment was made at UEFA’s initiative. Trefloni said he was “very happy to be here… the good relations between the Central (UEFA) and the Bulgarian Football Union helped a lot,” adding that the goal is to raise the quality of officiating in Bulgarian championships.
