Matteo Valbonne departs Olympiacos to join Maltese club

French midfielder Matteo Valbonne, 42, announced his departure from Greek side Olympiacos to continue his career in Santa Luzia, Malta. In a farewell post he thanked Olympiacos president Evangelos Marinakis, coach José Anigo and technical director Thomas Benet, writing, “I will always keep a deep bond with the club, its history and its fans.”

Valbonne played 150 matches for Olympiacos, scoring 18 goals and providing 43 assists while winning three league titles and a cup. After a season with the club’s B team, he moves abroad to the Maltese league, extending his playing career into his mid‑forties.
