Matterhorn: Fatal mountaineering accident on the Liongrat

A fatal mountaineering accident occurred on the Matterhorn in Switzerland on Sunday, August 30. A climber fell to his death while ascending via the Liongrat at an altitude of approximately 4,300 meters.

The victim was accompanied by another individual when the fall occurred for reasons that remain unclear. Air Zermatt rescue teams arrived at the scene via helicopter but could only confirm the climber's death. The identity of the deceased is currently being established, and the public prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
