Matthew Brennan wins fifth Vuelta stage in Seville
Matthew Brennan secured his fifth stage victory of the 2026 Vuelta a España during the 17th stage, a 185-kilometer flat route from Dos Hermanas to Seville. The 21-year-old British rider from Visma | Lease a Bike won the mass sprint, beating Jordi Meeus and Magnus Cort. This victory marks a historic milestone for Visma | Lease a Bike, which has now achieved seven stage wins in this edition, breaking its previous record.
Brennan’s performance was supported by Wout van Aert, who played a key role in positioning him for the final sprint. Brennan becomes the youngest rider to win five stages in a single Vuelta.
In the general classification, Enric Mas of Movistar maintains the red jersey. He holds a 2:06 lead over Felix Gall and a 2:10 lead over Primoz Roglic. The race moves toward a decisive 32.1-kilometer individual time trial in the Cádiz region, featuring a route from El Puerto de Santa María to Jerez de la Frontera, which is expected to significantly impact the overall standings.
